Procedures for the Staff Senate

Membership: The faculty senate shall consist of all teachers, guidance counselors, security personal, office personal, and paraprofessionals employed, either full or part time, at the Greater Hartford Classical School.

Meetings: The regular meeting of the Classical Magnet School Staff Senate will take place on the third Tuesday of each month or on a day and time designated by the principal of the Classical Magnet School.

Quorum: A quorum shall exist when a number equivalent to a majority of certified staff is present. All members present, regardless of certification status, shall count toward the number for quorum.

Reports: Reports can be submitted to the Staff Senate by any standing or ad hoc committwith a seconded motion, can accept the report by a simple majority. Questions and discussion of a report shall be limited to five minutes. The time for questions and discussion on a report can be extended at the discretion of the President or by a motion from the floor, seconded, and passed by a simple majority.

Motions: Motions for consideration shall be placed on the agenda by the President of the Staff Senate. Discussion on a motion shall be limited to five minutes. The chair shall maintain balance to the debate by calling on members who are for and against the motion. The time for debate on a motion can be extended at the discretion of the President or by a motion from the floor, seconded, and passed by a simple majority.

Once motions placed on the agenda have passed under the gavel, members may make motions from the floor.

Matters for Discussion: In order to avoid lengthy discussions, matters of concern shall be addressed by ad hoc committees of the Staff Senate. An ad hoc committee may consist of one or more members. Such committees may petition to the chair to place motions or reports before the full Staff Senate.

Adjournment: A motion to adjourn shall be in order at any time.
